Scrounging for Boxes Saves Money

Scrounging Boxes Saves Money

Paying $5 to $10 or even more for every box you ship can quickly add up to a lot of lost profits. There are better ways to acquire boxes of any size and shape. All you need is time.

Big box stores regularly recycle tons of boxes. Do them a favor and pull the ones you want out of bins usually located in hallways along the perimeter of the building. The store manager will be glad you saved them the trouble of turning it all back into pulp. Offer to show them the boxes, so they don't think you're trying to steal something. Buying an item from the store is a nice show of respect.

Cruising neighborhoods on garbage day is another easy way to get the boxes you need. Many people stack piles of boxes next to the recycling bin because they either didn't feel like breaking the cardboard down or the boxes wouldn't all fit. Just watch the weather to make sure it didn't rain during the previous evening. A wet box isn't much good for anything.
